Coles now open in West Ryde – a win for West Ryde Chamber

David Tompkins, West Ryde Chamber of Commerce President, wore a big, rather relieved smile at the opening of the West Ryde Coles Store on 15 October. David officially welcomed State, Area Coles Managers and personally welcomed Mr Aaron Ralph the West Ryde Coles Store Manager and Mr Robert Elhindi who is the Manager of the new West Ryde Liquorland outlet.

“I am really excited that Coles and Liquorland has finally arrived,” David said. “The development has taken so long and local businesses had suffered the adverse affects of a construction zone since 2008.”

As President of the West Ryde Chamber of Commerce, David has been driving all parties involved to work through the problems associated with the development and get it finished. A milestone was having the car park opened many months before Coles was ready to trade.

The town square was abuzz and people were discovering that under Coles is parking for 371 vehicles in a two level car park that is accessed via a travelator and a huge lift. This offers two hours of free parking but West Ryde Chamber is pushing for an extra one hour to fall in line with other large shopping centres in the Ryde District.

There are some road and area drainage works which will hopefully be completed before the apartments are finished, which is planned for August 2015. People will then be able to enjoy the competition between two retailing giants and all
the cafes, eateries and other specialty shops in the West Ryde Town Centre.

David said, “We have so much to offer; the World’s Best Hotel (West Ryde Hotel), Hairdressers, Taffa’s Mitre 10, Coffee Shops galore, and more -visit”.

We encourage all our members and friends to head to West Ryde and discover the new Coles. In November many retailers will be offering November pre-Christmas Specials; check them out through the City of Ryde website.
