City of Ryde Mayor, Clr Bill Pickering, announced on 27 November the appointment of Ms Gail Connolly to the position of General Manager of the City of Ryde. Ms Connolly’s five-year-term as General Manager will commence on January 12, 2015.
“Council is confident that Ms Connolly has the skills and necessary experience to lead the City of Ryde into the future,” the Mayor said.
“Ms Connolly has had a long career in a variety of roles managing large government departments at both local and state levels. Her extensive experience and knowledge of NSW legislation relating to the management and operations of local government equip her well for this important leadership role at a critical time for Council.”
Ms Connolly comes to the City of Ryde from her position as Planning and Environment Director at the City of Gold Coast and previously held senior positions at the City of Sydney, Campbelltown City Council, NSW Department of Transport and Infrastructure and NSW Department of Planning.
“I am confident that under Ms Connolly’s leadership, Council will work collaboratively with its community and key stakeholders, to ensure the City of Ryde is fit for the future. It is essential that we are working vigilantly to preserve Ryde by ensuring we are financially sustainable.”
On her appointment Ms Connolly said she is enthusiastic about the new role and ready to embrace the many challenges ahead.
“The City of Ryde is a very diverse community, has fantastic economic development opportunities as well as an international business focus. I am looking forward to building relationships with the community, other government departments and the broader business community to establish a new shared vision for both the organisation and the community. I look forward to building on the great potential of the organisation and opportunities ahead to secure the City of Ryde’s future.”
