Local Chambers of Commerce

Five local Chambers of Commerce support diverse business precincts in the City of Ryde. They are:
Gladesville - President: Reg Cain, phone 9879 6020 - website
Eastwood - President: Peter Sullivan, phone 9874 1464, website
North Ryde Macquarie Park - President: Ray Gleeson, phone 9809 1888, website
Ryde - President: Tony Abboud, phone 9809 1299, website
West Ryde - President: Michael Nelson, phone 9874 2876 website
In addition to these Chambers, we have Epping Chamber of Commerce (President, Robert Camerson, phone 9869 3888, website) on our boundary, straddling council areas, and the Armenian Chamber of Commerce (President, Rita Lepedjian, phone 8005 2240, website) while not specific to any boundary has the majority of its members operating businesses within the City of Ryde.
While the Forum works on a strategic level, lobbying to government on behalf of single Chambers on some issues and all Chambers on others, and addressing issues that affect the City of Ryde as a whole, Chambers of Commerce tend to be tactical, focusing on issues that affect their local business precinct directly.
Like the Forum our local Chambers meet monthly, and you'll find details of their upcoming meetings on our Events calendar. These meetings provide networking opportunities for Chamber members, and also highlight details of news pertinent to the local area - new developments, legislation etc. You'll often find local Councillors attending Chamber meetings too. Chambers of Commerce play a vital role in local business, providing a united voice on issues of importance. Local Chambers send a regular newsletter to their members keeping them informed of events and news. We are fortunate that we have strong and active Chambers of Commerce in our City.
We have many members in the Forum who are also members of local Chambers of Commerce; both the Forum and Chambers fill different needs for people and businesses. If you are in business in Ryde, we cannot recommend highly enough joining a local business association, whether it's the Forum or your Chamber. If you're interested in finding out what kind of association membership suits you best, contact the Forum on 9807 4999. If we think you'll gain more benefit by joining your local Chamber rather than the Forum, we'll be honest and tell you.
The Forum often co-hosts events with local Chambers, such as Business After Hours, so members of both organisations can benefit from meeting more people at bigger functions. We co-host daytime events (eg breakfasts) with other Chambers when the topic is something relevant to that Chamber's area, ie the Epping-Chatswood Rail Link, which affects North Ryde/Macquarie Park.

Bound by Parramatta River at its south, and Lane Cove National Park at its north, the City of Ryde is located midway between the Sydney CBD and Parramatta, and comprises 16 suburbs. It is a direct-route 20 minute drive from either place, and, outside peak hour, only 40 minutes from Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport. Ryde’s location makes it the ideal place to for businesses of all sizes, with easy access to Sydney’s main motorways. The City has a population of just over 100,000 and offers employment to around 40,000 in large corporations, small to medium enterprises and micro and home businesses. It has one of Sydney's finest Universities, Sydney’s largest Community College and three TAFE Colleges, most branches of the CSIRO and, arguably the densest concentration of electronic and pharmaceutical research, manufacturing and distribution organisations in Australia. In addition there are eight distinct retail and commercial areas, each with its own commercial personality.
There are currently around 12500 businesses operating in the City and the potential for new business through existing commercial/industrial zonings presents an exciting challenge for future growth.
Infrastructure developments such as the Lane Cove Tunnel and Chatswood-Epping Rail Link will provide, when complete, easier access to the high technology Macquarie Park corridor in the north of the City. Current public transport facilities are excellent, with the City serviced by bus, train and ferry.
More information on the City, its opportunities for growth, and its history can be found at Ryde City Council's website. Ryde Business Forum has a close and strong relationship with Council.

A facilitator for business growth throughout Ryde

The City of Ryde is home to more than 12,500 companies and more than 40,000 employees. It is arguably becoming the second biggest employment CBD in greater Sydney, set to overtake Parramatta by 2020. Such an environment needs a strong business association, and Ryde Business Forum is proud to be of service for companies throughout the City of Ryde.

As an umbrella Chamber of Commerce, Ryde Business Forum provides a catalyst for sustainability and business in the City of Ryde for companies of all sizes through its services.

Being part of a business association such as Ryde Business Forum can help you grow your business and achieve greater success, no matter the size of your business - large, home office or anywhere in between. We provide opportunities for you to meet potential partners, clients and service providers. We provide a range of affordable staff training opportunities through our own workshops and those of the Departmbusiness in rydeent of State & Regional Development, the Office of Industrial Relations and the NSW Business Chamber among other organisations. Through our affiliations we are able to put you in touch with IR and HR advisers, Apprenticeship centres and more. By joining us you'll be part of the strongest organisation in Sydney's fastest-growing business region. Our excellent relations with all three levels of government in our area allow us frank and open discussions with government representatives and the opportunity to lobby on various subjects on behalf of our members.

What is the difference between RBF and local Chambers? This is a question we are often asked - click here to find out more about our local Chambers, their services and their contact details.

We provide information, advice, education, lobbying, marketing and communications opportunities through:

  • Monthly Business After Hours functions which provides members and guests with Business to Business, Business to Government and Business to Community communications opportunities (link to Events page for more information)
  • Up to four luncheons a year with keynote speakers
  • Bi-Monthly business breakfast briefings (link to Events page for more information)
  • Business Blog where members can share information - we are the first local business association in Australia to provide this service
  • Regular E-News up to three times per month. E-News gives members the opportunity to promote their special offers and news directly to other members in a consolidated newsletter.
  • Quarterly CEO Club meetings with Ryde City Council and local business leaders
  • Other special events such as corporate golf days and business expo (link to Events page for more information)
  • We also provide special services on an ad hoc basis, for example, we surveyed corporations in the Macquarie Park corridor to ascertain parking availability for a member who required hundreds more car spaces than it had been allocated.

The Forum markets its events and news directly to several hundred companies across the City of Ryde and beyond, primarily by e-mail. We also use our website as a key marketing tool, with all event information and invitations available to visitors to our site. If you’re considering sponsoring an event, this is a great opportunity to get your logo straight into hundreds of inboxes which target a local market, as well as providing a lasting impression on the day itself. Please see our Sponsorship Sponsorship pages for more information.

Members are also provided with a copy of the Membership List so they can make direct contact with other members. Updated Membership lists are available on request to members only.

Through our Committees we facilitate initiatives such as the New Apprenticeships scheme, which was launched in the City of Ryde in December 2004 and offers benefits to both companies and their employees, both new and existing.

For people starting a new small business and wondering where to turn, we’ve got a special section under Services special section under Services with links and information to help you.

With RBF membership, the benefits and contacts you will make are manifold. We are a facilitator for business growth in Ryde, and we want to see you grow and prosper.

Information about what we do, and membership levels, is available in our corporate brochure as well as on this website. To download a PDF copy of the brochure, click on the image at left.
