NSW Premier Mike Baird made the announcement today that Ryde, Hunters Hill and Lane Cove Councils will be forced to merge. There are two good things that come out of this announcement:
- We now have certainty and we can move forward as a community
- Ryde has not been broken up and has merged as a whole with two logical areas in terms of geography and demographics
While we’ve always suggested Ryde should stand alone, the NSW Government has insisted mergers happen and this is the best outcome under these circumstances.
We will ensure the best interests of the local business community will be looked after. We will report back to members in January on how the merger process will take place and keep you updated as time goes on. We will continue to make appropriate representations on behalf of members to all levels of government.
2016 will be a year of change for Ryde, but we will make it a positive change with good outcomes for business and you, our members.
Wishing you a safe and happy Christmas season and a prosperous new year,
Tony Abboud, President
